Mission & History

OUR MISSION

Since our first production in 2005, The Company Theatre has been collaborating with Canadian and international artists to create emotionally moving theatrical experiences that explore, boldly and unflinchingly, the human condition.

We have an inherent curiosity about and respect for the instincts and behaviours that define what it means to be human. We work with the highest calibre of performers to fully embrace these instincts on stage, allowing the story to unfold differently every time we tell it. By rejecting the standard process of repeating choreographed choices, we invite our audiences to bear witness to a living, breathing reflection of themselves – an honest and real portrayal of humans, by humans. In this way, our performers and audience members share a truly “live” experience – sometimes challenging, often hard-hitting, but always intriguing, and always enlightening.

A BRIEF HISTORY

In 2004, actors Allan Hawco and Philip Riccio created The Company Theatre out of their discovery of an absence of companies focused on the development of actors within the Canadian theatre scene. As the years have passed, we have produced and co-produced theatre, that has challenged our actors, introduced our audiences to new stories, and gained acclaim from our artistic peers and theatre critics. Our past productions include:

A Whistle in the Dark (2005, 2007)
Marion Bridge (2007)
Festen (2008)
Through The Leaves (2010)
The Test (2011)
Speaking In Tongues (2012/2013)
Belleville (2014)
The Seagull (2015)
Domesticated (2015)
